By Car

From the George Washington Bridge

  • After crossing the GWB, follow the signs for the Cross Bronx Expressway
  • Take the Cross Bronx to the Castle Hill Ave., Exit 5B
  • Follow the Cross Bronx service road (about ¼ mile) to the first light (Castle Hill Ave)
  • Turn left onto Castle Hill
  • Make a second left at the first light. You are now on the Cross Bronx service road going the opposite direction.
  • The first 90 degree right turn is Olmstead Avenue
  • If you pass McDonalds or come to Westchester Ave, you’ve gone too far
  • Fourth Presbyterian Church (the yellow brick church) is two blocks up Olmstead on the corner with Newbold Ave
  • Park on the street and enter through the gate on Olmstead Ave.

From Long Island Via the Whitestone Bridge

  • After crossing the Whitestone Bridge toll barrier move to the right.
  • Follow the signs to I-95 South—Geo. Washington Bridge / Cross Bronx Expressway
  • Take the Cross Bronx to Westchester Avenue, Exit 5A. The exit ramp drops you onto the Cross Bronx service road.
  • Ellis Ave is the first right (immediately after the exit ramp).  Take the second right onto Newbold Ave (it’s a very sharp right turn)
  • If you pass McDonalds or come to Westchester Ave, you’ve gone too far
  • Fourth Presbyterian Church (the yellow brick church) is at the end of the first block of Newbold, at the corner with Olmstead.
  • Park on the street and enter through the gate on Olmstead Ave.

From Westchester County Via I-95 South (New England Thru-Way / Bruckner Expressway)

  • After you enter the Bronx on I-95 South you will cross the Hutchinson River Parkway twice, then you’ll cross Pelham Parkway
  • Continue on I-95 South.  DO NOT take I-695 to the Throgs Neck Bridge
  • Shortly after the I-695 split, you will enter a complicated interchange with several highways.  Follow the signs to I-95 South—Geo. Washington Bridge / Cross Bronx Expressway
  • Take the Cross Bronx to Westchester Avenue, Exit 5A. The exit ramp drops you onto the Cross Bronx service road.
  • Ellis Ave is the first right (immediately after the exit ramp).  Take the second right onto Newbold Ave (it’s a very sharp right turn)

Fourth Presbyterian Church is fortunate to be near three bus lines:
Bx4, Bx22 & Q44.

Bx4

  • The Bx4 runs along Westchester Avenue
  • To reach 4th PC, get off at the Olmstead Avenue stop (between Parkchester / Hugh Grant Circle & Castle Hill Avenue)
  • Walk down Olmstead Avenue past Castle Hill Electric Company, toward the Cross Bronx Expressway.  Do not walk toward Ortiz Funeral Home or the church of St. Helena
  • After just one block you reach Newbold Ave.
  • Fourth Presbyterian Church (the yellow brick church) is at the corner of Newbold & Olmstead Avenues
  • Enter through the gate on Olmstead Avenue

Bx22

  • The section of the Bx22 near 4th PC runs along Castle Hill Avenue
  • To reach 4th PC, get off at the Westchester Avenue stop (between Starling Avenue and the Cross Bronx Expressway)
  • If you were traveling up Castle Hill (north) then you must cross both Westchester & Castle Hill Avenues. Look for the Bx 22 bus shelter for the opposite direction
  • From the Bx22 bus shelter traveling down Castle Hill (south), walk along Castle Hill Avenue one block to Newbold Avenue. You will pass a branch of CitiBank
  • At the corner of Newbold Avenue turn right onto Newbold Avenue
  • Walk one (long) block to Olmstead Avenue
  • Fourth Presbyterian Church (the yellow brick church) is at the corner of Newbold & Olmstead Avenues
  • Enter through the gate on Olmstead Avenue

Q44—Bronx Bound Direction

  • The section of the Q44 near 4th PC runs along the Cross Bronx service road
  • To reach 4th PC, get off at the Olmstead Avenue stop (between Castle Hill Avenue and Parkchester / Hugh Grant Circle)
  • The stop is at a triangular shaped park
  • Olmstead Avenue is the street that runs perpendicular to the Cross Bronx Express­way, on the right hand side of the park
  • Walk up Olmstead Avenue and cross Ellis Avenue
  • 4th PC (the yellow brick church) is on the left side of Olmstead Avenue, in the block between Ellis and Newbold Avenues.
  • Enter through the gate on Olmstead Avenue

Q44—Queens Bound Direction

  • The section of the Q44 near 4th PC runs along the Cross Bronx service road
  • To reach 4th PC, get off at the Castle Hill stop (between Parkchester / Hugh Grant Circle and the Whitestone Bridge)
  • Walk along Castle Hill Avenue, across the bridge over the Cross Bronx Expressway
  • Turn left at the first light. You are now on the Cross Bronx service road going the opposite direction.
  • Walk along the Cross Bronx service road to Olmstead Avenue, which the first 90 degree right turn
  • Do not go past the triangular shaped park
  • Olmstead Avenue is the street that runs perpendicular to the Cross Bronx Express­way on the edge of the triangular park
  • Walk up Olmstead Avenue and cross Ellis Avenue
  • 4th PC (the yellow brick church) is on the left side of Olmstead Avenue, in the block between Ellis and Newbold Avenues.
  • Enter through the gate on Olmstead Avenue

Directions By Subway (#6 Train)

Fourth Presbyterian Church is between the Parkchester and Castle Hill stations of the #6 train. You can get off at either station (the distance is about the same). If you are coming to 4th PC on Sunday, check the MTA’s website for service advisories on the 6 train, because the Castle Hill station is sometimes closed on weekends.

  • From the Parkchester Station
    As you exit through the turnstiles, keep walking straight and leave the station by the doors on the same wall as the station booth. Do Not use the doors on either side of the station
  • As you exit the station you are in Hugh Grant Circle. Walk straight to Westchester Avenue (towards the McDonalds). Stay on the right side of the street (same side as McDonalds)
  • Continue walking along Westchester Avenue to the corner of Olmstead (Castle Hill Electric Company is on the corner)
  • Turn right onto Olmstead Avenue
  • After just one block you reach Newbold Ave.
  • Fourth Presbyterian Church (the yellow brick church) is at the corner of Newbold & Olmstead Avenues
  • Enter through the gate on Olmstead Avenue

From the Castle Hill Station

  • As you exit through the turnstiles, turn right and descend the stairway to street level.
  • When you leave the station you should be standing in front of a Dunkin Donut shop. If you are standing in front of a Newsstand, you must cross both Westchester and Castle Hill Avenues to get to the Dunkin Donut shop.
  • From the Dunkin Donuts shop, walk along Castle Hill Avenue one block to Newbold Avenue. You will pass a branch of CitiBank
  • At the corner of Newbold Avenue turn right onto Newbold Avenue
  • Walk one (long) block to Olmstead Avenue
  • Fourth Presbyterian Church (the yellow brick church) is at the corner of Newbold & Olmstead Avenues
  • Enter through the gate on Olmstead Avenue
